Would your wiring pass an electrical MOT?

An EICR is the formal test of the fixed wiring in a home. Chris Pearson inspects and tests to BS 7671, then explains the findings in plain English. Gold keeps the certificate on the consumer unit, so it is not lost in an inbox.

Built for landlords, useful for homeowners

In England, a private rented home needs a valid EICR at least every five years, and a current report before a new tenancy if the last one is out of date. Homeowners use the same test for a sale, a remortgage, or simply to know the wiring is sound.

On the board

A QR code that stays with the house

Scan the sticker on the consumer unit to open that property’s certificate, photos and older reports. No hunting through emails when a tenant, buyer or electrician asks.

More than one rental

One page for every property

Landlords with several homes get an overview. Each property has its own button. It turns red when the EICR is past its due date.

Insurance

A current report is evidence of care

If a report is missing or out of date, an insurer can question whether the electrics were being maintained. After an electrical fire or injury, that can affect a claim.

Two ways to have the test done

Both include a full Electrical Installation Condition Report to BS 7671. The difference is what happens to the record afterwards.

Standard

The inspection, the report, and the certificate by email
  • Full EICR inspection and test
  • Written report in plain English
  • Certificate emailed after payment
  • C1, C2, C3 and FI items identified
  • Practical notes on what, if anything, needs doing

Gold

The same test, plus a record that stays on the board
  • Everything in Standard
  • QR sticker on the consumer unit
  • Certificate and installation photos on the property page
  • Older certificates kept in one history
  • Troubleshooting guide from the same code
  • Landlord overview if you have more than one property
